Cooked rice is often the go-to for baby&#8217;s first solid food and will likely be a welcome change from any formula or breast milk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>When can your baby eat cooked rice<br><\/strong>Before introducing cooked rice in your baby\u2019s diet, make sure your baby is actually ready to eat solid food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Babies that are developmentally ready to eat solid foods will also exhibit the following:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A readiness to chew<br><\/strong>&#8211; Being able to put food into their mouths<br>&#8211; Loss of the tongue-extrusion reflex<br>&#8211; An ability to sit upright<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While parents can keep an eye out for this behavior at any age, babies typically won\u2019t be ready to eat solids until they reach 6-months-old. Until this age, formula or breastmilk is the best thing for a baby.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Introducing solid foods to your baby<br><\/strong>At 6-months-old, babies will need to have additional sources of iron-rich foods. Even with formula and breastmilk, parents need to start beefing up their child\u2019s diet. When it does come time for baby to eat their first solid food items, these foods don\u2019t have to be pureed or bland. While cooked rice is okay for most babies to have at 6-months-old, parents should also consider other nutritious options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your baby may be in particular need of extra iron if they experienced immediate cord clamping during their birth. As 1\/3 of the baby\u2019s blood volume lies in the placenta, cutting the umbilical cord quickly will cause this flow of blood to be cut off to your child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At this point, your child will need absorbable sources of zinc and iron. If you\u2019re considering cooked rice for your baby, don\u2019t forget other nutritious foods. First foods like salmon and avocado are filled with nutrients that will help your baby with brain development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Safety concerns for solid food<\/strong><br>Some parents may wait until their child is 9-months-old to introduce solids. At 9-months-old, your child should be ready to eat solids. At this age, they should be able to eat cooked rice safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many parents feel uncomfortable introducing new foods to their children. While learning new things is a big part of growing up, it can be nerve-wracking to give your baby solid foods. If you\u2019re worried about the risk of your baby choking on these new food items, take a second to think about the easiest foods for them to eat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Items like cooked rice don\u2019t pose much of a choking risk as rice is soft and the individual grains are quite small. Parents that are introducing foods like grapes should be sure to carefully slice these items into bite-sized portions to make sure their child is able to consume them safely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rice is often considered a baby\u2019s first food.
